The United States also stipulates that international students must purchase medical insurance. In general, schools will indicate the medical insurance fee on the admission notice, insurance payments would be covered in the tuition and living expenses collected by the school, therefor the medical insurance is automatically purchased at the time of admission.

Some schools require foreign students to purchase specific health insurance provided by the school.

However, if the applicant could prove that other health insurance could be waived according to the school regulation, you can purchase insurance outside the school.

  • Canada

There are two types of medical insurance in Canada, short-term and long-term. International students usually purchase short-term medical insurance.

Different provinces and cities in Canada have different regulations for foreign students to purchase medical insurance. Some provinces require international students to participate in medical insurance in the province; in other provinces, international students are required to purchase medical insurance from private insurance companies.

Currently, RSA, Allianz, Travel Underwriter (TU), Blue Cross, and UHIP provide medical insurance for international students.

  • U.K.

In the UK, international students can enjoy free local medical care as long as they have been in the UK for six months. In general, schools have health care centers, and students can get a General Practitioner (GP) by registering. You can also enjoy free dental services. If you are unfortunately suffering from a serious illness, GP will make an appointment to a specialist. Therefore, it is recommended that foreign students choose short-term medical insurance in your country before going abroad. It is recommended that you choose your own UK study abroad insurance based on your individual circumstances and needs.

  • Australia

The Australian Government stipulates that international students who are studying in Australia must purchase overseas student health insurance. If they did not have any insurances, the visa would not be issued.

There are three insurance companies offering health insurance for international students in Australia named Medibank Private, OSHC Worldcare and AHM. It will pay for most of the medical expenses, prescription drugs and emergency ambulance fees incurred by international students during their stay in Australia.

In general, medical insurance payments will be collected together with tuition fees, paid by the school. Medical insurance cards will be issued along with student ID cards, and the process of reimbursement of medical expenses is convenient.
